Studying the subject in the Hospital for infectious diseases a student has to

know

  • Basis of theoretical medical disciplines, basis of clinical disciplines of the therapeutic and surgical profile (the initial level for mastering on infectious diseases);
  • Basical knowlege on epidemiology, modern classification of infectious diseases, historical experience of competing with infectious diseases and principles of their eradication;
  • Etiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations and prevention methods.
  • Additional methods of patient΄s examination: laboratory (clinical findings, microscopic, bacteriologic, serologic, neutralisation test etc.), skin allergy tests, bioassays etc.

  • Nosocomial infections and their prevention.

  1. To diagnose infectious diseases on the basis of the case history, complaints, physical examination, epidemiological data.
  2. To make a plan of laboratory examination for diagnosis confirmation.
  3. To prescribe complex treatment, to define a regimen and a diet.
  4. To assist the physician in the intensive care of patients with acute liver failure, renal, adrenal failure, brain oedema, generalised and local seizures, toxic shock syndrome, neuroparalitic respiration disturbances, anaphylactic shock, hypovolemic shock, intestinal bleeding, stenosis of larynx, hyperpyrexia.

The studying of the lectures and textbook during preparation for medical practice should include the following:

The main information on pathogenesis and pathology

The student can check up quality of each theme preparation addressing the section “Control questions”. Being at medical practice a student is obliged to have: a protective mask, phonendoscope, a notebook and a pen. Working in the hospital for infectious diseases  the student should keep strictly teacher’s and medical staff `s instructions concerning physical examination, patient’s regimen and therapy, and prevention of nosocomial infections. All contacts of students with patients should be positive. The student should keep medical ethics.
